FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS…
+ How long will it take to sweep my chimney?
Anywhere between 20 minutes and 2 hours depending on your fire place. Other aspects are open unlined chimneys, birds nesting, poor access and weather damage.
+ Carbon Monoxide:
The silent assassin! Poorly maintained appliances and old fire places can leak gas’s into the air, this in a very short time can be very dangerous and cause a number of health issues as well as death. We insist that every house has a Carbon Monoxide alarm according to building regulations before we carry out any sweeping activities. Ask for some advice and we can provide you with a new alarm with fitting.
+ What can I burn in my fire:
If you are burning wood this doesn’t mean you can chuck any old wood into your fire. The wood you use must have a moisture content of less than 20% to make it burn clean and at the correct temperatures. Poorly seasoned wood above this content can really cause creosote build-up in your flue or chimney. This in turn can lead to chimney fires and structural damage to your home. Damp coal can also lead to the same issues, so make sure your suppliers are providing you with well looked after products.
+Birds Nesting:
If you feel or no you have birds in your chimney, then we can send a camera up and check it out. It’s a messy and longer job to clear and can only be carried out when the birds are not in nesting season.
Note:
Any sweep’s going over 2 hours there is an extra £40 an hour
